At the hub of this revolution are relevant and trendy mobile applications.....

With recent advances in technology, the use of smart devices has been increasing. Smart devices have become part of day-to-day life - ranging from intelligent devices that power and light the home to smart health and fitness devices. At the hub of this revolution are relevant and trendy mobile applications. In light of this TNM in partnership with mHub, Facebook and IBM launched the TNM SMART CHALLENGE targeting students at all levels of education and the community at large.

  • TNM Smart Kid – This category targets the young generation of entrepreneurs in Malawi inspiring them to become innovative problem solvers. This category will incorporate both APP development and competitive USSD games. Through multiple choice quiz questions, the participants will be engaged on various technology related topics. The questions are designed to impart basic knowledge on ICT, business ethics and TNM Smart Data products. The purpose for this category is to arouse interest in ICT and instil a logical problem solving approach in children. Entry will be restricted to children aged between 5-12 years.

  • TNM Smart Student – This second category will focus on mobile website and application development among students with the aim of selecting the best mobile application development team at the end of the competition. This category will help to identify and nurture innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit among students in Malawi. The participants with the most innovative mobile application will have the opportunity to develop their ideas further using support from the competition prizes. The ultimate goal will be to grow the idea into a fully-fledged business. This category will be open to students aged 13 years and above. Closely tied to this category of the competition will be the introduction of the TNM Smart Scholar, a web based application through which college students in Malawi can upload and download educational content such as journals, research papers and notes relevant to their various fields of study. This application is expected to help alleviate the general lack of access to adequate and up to date study resources for college students in Malawi. We request your college to support and encourage your students to develop such an application as part of their submissions for the competition.
  • TNM Smart Community – This category will involve submissions from secondary and tertiary level institutions and technology hubs that have facilitated mobile technology based solutions development with best mobile technology community being selected at the end of the contest. This category is designed to identify and develop technology groups that will support and accelerate mobile technology solution evolution in Malawi. The contest will target groups of application developers in the various colleges and technology hubs in Malawi that are interested in mobile technology industry with the view of developing solutions for common problems within the Malawian market. Applicants are expected to have developed solutions that have addressed pertinent ICT challenges in Malawi. The institution with the most successful mobile technology based solutions will have the opportunity to win a computer lab and participate in international mobile application development competitions and programs. This category will only be open to institutions.
