This edition of Lilongwe Pitch Night fell on February 23, 2017.with Guest Speaker Dr. Francis Chinjoka Gondwe, a Chartered Accountant and Business Advisors at AMS Global.
On this night, there were 3 pitchers who have started the journey into entrepreneurship by identifying a problem and coming up with a creative solution.
Our first pitcher for the night was Kelvin Before Gumbi, also known as KBG, Creative Director and Founder of Nyali Music. KBG has also started his own t-shirt line called Nyali Wear printing t-shirts with creative and catchy lines like 'Straight Outta Malawi' and 'I Am From Malawi'. KBG is growing a household name in Malawi, which will also attract tourists. Apart from Nyali Wear, KBG is also one of the young music guru's in Malawi.
Our second pitcher was a young lady by the name Tamika Nyondo of Cake Heaven. Tamika started baking as a hobby and a passion but now she has grown it into a business. Tamika prides herself in putting her heart and soul into her cakes. When asked how she has been able to sustain her business with the constant electricity issues we face in Malawi, she said she uses a generator. Although expensive to use a generator, the last thing Cake Heaven wants to do is disappoint a customer.
We also had a short speech from a Lilongwe Pitch Night Alumni Fredrick Mattress who started his own company called Honey Products producing and distributing honey to local convenient stores in Malawi. He advised other aspiring entrepreneurs to use the internet properly to research on the business they want to start. His mission is to train 2,500 beekeepers in the bee farming business.
Our last pitcher was Mr. Jose Mendes who came up with a creative way for people in Malawi to have to light despite the blackouts. His innovation the African Power Box reuses and recycles outside energy to light up a dark place or room. It doesn't require solar or charging of any sort.
We hope more entrepreneurs use these the stories of these pitchers as an inspiration! Stay tuned for next month's edition of Lilongwe Pitch Night!
